My grandfather had this funny scripture he would quote, "29th chapter of Mattew, verse 11. "He who hath a horn and tooteth it not, the same shall not be tooted."
It is a line oft-repeated in our family when someone would like to draw attention to themselves. (Okay, how weird is it that spellcheck is telling me that spellcheck isn't a word but tooteth is?" Bizarre.)
So here I am, tooting my own horn, and promoting those other places I write!

Examiner.com- Chastity and adultery (which again- hate comments?? i'm truly stunned at how some people spend their time. oh and i deleted the interesting barrage of f* you comments this article generated!)
Over on my Cutting Back and Going Green blog I'm talking about the No Rubbish Diet- the idea of reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting so effectively that you have no trash. Imagine a world with no trash cans or landfills!

The Prop 8 article is showing 2 different kinds of comments. There are some directly below the article that are pretty bad. The ones in the comment boxes aren't as bad.
ReplyDeleteReligion just isn't for everyone. You are going to get hate comments especially because you are writing about Mormonism, but that would be true of any religion. Lingualistically and historically the Book of Mormon doesn't add up, so I'm not surprised that you got the most hate comments there. Keep researching and writing. It is good for you. Stay positive. Don't let opinions get you down. Everyone has their own.
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to bet that many of your hate comments came from people who have left the church and, classically, can't leave it alone. :) This is not your fault, but brava to you for keeping on writing!

ReplyDeleteI say let them be haters. They're too mindless to realize that a) hatred and anger will never change someone's mind, only make them more defensive and protective of what is being attacked, and b) every time they click your article, you get paid. Let 'em bring their hater friends and click away! Then you laugh all the way to the bank...after you delete their comments. You win and they are left with nothing but bitter hearts.
Comments are feedback. If you get a lot of negative comments, you probably are appealing only to an LDS audience. Richard Bushman's Rough Stone Rolling biography did a great job appealing to both audiences. It is very difficult to do and after I read his book, I realized that a lot of things aren't focused on in the church that many outsiders view as important. It was a good read.
