Passage to Zarahemla
I watched "Passage to Zarahemla" this week. It's an LDS film, very targeted specifically to the LDS audience, and in a new twist, is in the fantasy LDS realm. As far as I know, this is the first ever film to go into that category. And I think that is great!
I liked "Passage to Zarahemla" more than almost all LDS films I have seen before it.
Why?
Because it doesn't fit into any other category of LDS film. It isn't a comedy (like the Singles Ward), or an angst ridden coming of age (God's Army), or a musical (thank goodness). It's a present-day fantasy based on an actual novel which is something that can't be said for any other LDS film that I can think of.
So I'm recommending this movie to my friends that are looking for a good, clean, enjoyable, and engaging movie. Oscar worthy it is not, but it is enjoyable. Put aside your preconceived notions about LDS niche films, and you just might enjoy this new movie.
The writer, director, producer, and even music composer of the film, Chris Heimerdinger himself, is blogging on the experiences of making the movie at http://passagetozarahemla.blogspot.com
Also, the DVD is now for sale online.
